Mommy Book Club will meet every other week, discussing one book in portions every month. You don't have to worry about bringing your kids, because we all will!
In March, we're reading Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst, a young adult fantasy.
We'll discuss the first half on March 13th and the second half on March 27th.
At the first meeting, we will also discuss options for a April title. We will have a poll in the KBB Mommy Book Club group the week following to pick the book. If you're not in that group, you can join here: https://www.facebook.com/
The highly acclaimed, gorgeously written debut YA fantasy about a girl betrothed to a handsome prince...only to fall in love with the prince’s sister. Now in paperback!
Betrothed since childhood to the prince of Mynaria, Princess Dennaleia has always known what her future holds. Her marriage will seal the alliance between Mynaria and her homeland, protecting her people. But Denna has a secret. She possesses an Affinity for fire—a dangerous gift for the future queen of a kingdom where magic is forbidden.
Now Denna must learn the ways of her new home while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria’s formidable warhorses—and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly Princess Amaranthine—called Mare—the sister of her betrothed.
When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. And soon their friendship is threatening to blossom into something more.
But with dangerous conflict brewing that makes the alliance more important than ever, acting on their feelings could be deadly. Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms—and each other.
“Murder, mayhem, magic, romance-and horses…a romantic fantasy that will appeal to those who appreciate character-driven novels.” -Kirkus Reviews
“A powerful and exquisite love story” -Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Reminiscent of the kinds of fantasy books I loved when I was a young teenager, tales of princess angst, horses, and the blossoming of reluctant love. This book is bold enough to create a world that moves beyond the prejudices we are still fighting in our real world.” -Caitlyn Paxson, NPR
